Hosting the Perfect Fall Class Party

We recently hosted a fall class party for my daughter’s grade one class, and it was a huge success! With just an hour to work with, we had to make every moment count. Here’s a breakdown of how we made the event so enjoyable and some tips for planning your own fall party.

1. Patch Adventure

To start the festivities, we transformed the school’s front lawn into a mini pumpkin patch. We scattered pumpkins all around, giving each child the chance to pick their own. It turned into a little adventure as they searched for their ideal pumpkin. For decorating, pie pumpkins are perfect because they’re just the right size. We bought ours in bulk from Costco, which was both convenient and economical.

2. Pumpkin Decorating Fun

Inside, we set up tables with all the supplies for pumpkin decorating. My top tip is to use tempera paint sticks, which offer vibrant colors, dry quickly, and are mess-free. We provided a variety of decorations like unicorn horns, faux flowers, superhero masks, gems and sequins, crowns, googly-eyes, pumpkin stickers and colorful foam sheets for cutting and gluing. To inspire creativity, we printed out some sample designs for each table. We had a bottle of Elmer's glue at each table as well as a parent managing the glue gun station to assist with tricky decorations.

3. Fall Photo Op and Thankfulness Board

After the pumpkin decorating fun, we had a special fall-themed photo station set up for the kids. To bring this little set together, we used a few simple elements that added to the festive atmosphere:

  • Jute Rug: We laid down a jute rug under a tree to create a cozy and rustic base for the photo area.

  • Wood Crates: Arranged a few wooden crates to add height and dimension to the backdrop. (note - I love these crates, and use them all the time for graze tables, seasonal decor and seasonal table settings).

  • Leaf Garland: Draped a leaf garland across the crates and around the area to enhance the fall theme.

  • Acrylic Picture Frame: Featured an acrylic frame with a printout inside that served as a whiteboard. The kids used this to write down what they’re thankful for.

It made for a charming photo opportunity and a chance for the kids to express their gratitude while showcasing their pumpkins.

4. A Sweet Treat: Caramel Apple Bar

The caramel apple bar was the highlight of the party. We used fondue sets from Amazon to keep the caramel warm. These sets are great because they stay cool on the outside, reducing the risk of burns. The kids had a blast dipping apple slices and choosing from a variety of toppings, including sprinkles, candy corn, and crushed Whoppers.

If you’re planning a fall party like ours, here are a few tips that made our event a hit:

Pumpkin Choice: Go for pie pumpkins—they’re just the right size for little hands. And definitely grab a few extra, just in case someone has trouble finding the perfect one!

Supplies: Create an Amazon Wishlist for party supplies and share it with parents. It’s a great way to make sure you have everything you need without running around last minute. Plus, you can share the cost of the party, and parents who can’t make it in person can still contribute.

Safety: Use fondue sets that stay cool on the outside for the caramel apples. It helps keep the kids safe while they’re dipping and decorating.

Photo Sharing: After the party, share the photos from the photo op with the classroom parents. It’s a lovely way for them to have a special keepsake and get a glimpse of the fun, especially if they couldn’t make it due to work or other commitments.

Overall, the fall class party was a huge success, and the kids left with big smiles and wonderful memories. I hope these tips help you create your own amazing fall celebration!
